You are just about to bake your special vanilla cake when you realise...

Oh no! All the milk in the carton is spoilt. After all the money you wasted, it's all going to go to waste.

But, wait! Just before you think of throwing all of it down the drain, try reading these tips for sour milk and you might just find yourself wishing for sour milk when it's all gone. Make good of it before it's gone. After all, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade."

Before we start, I'd like you to have something clear in your mind.

Sour milk is good to use when it is not too bad. If you're using pasteurized milk, don't use it if it's really bad. Use it if it's only a bit off. If the colour has changed or it seems lumpy, please don't use it if you are going to use it in something you plan to eat.

Raw milk takes a lot longer for it to really go bad. It ferments and you can use the clabber formed for many things.

The bottom line is just to know which milk is best.

1. Baking.

Biscuits, pancakes, scones... You mention it. Sour milk is quite a good subsitute for regular milk in many of these delicious recipes.

And, there are so many recipes you can try out.

2. In your favourite soup.

Adding small amounts to sour milk, especially in foods such as soups, stews and casseroles, can give you a creamy and thick consistency which you'll surely fall in love with.

3. Smoothen your skin.

Want smooth skin? Try sour milk.

Sour milk contains lactic acid which assists in making your skin smoother.

Add a cup of it to your bathtub for smoother skin. But, a word of warning, you may want to add some essential oils as the odour is not quite pleasant.

4. Tenderizing your meat.

The lactic acid in sour milk can also help in tenderizing your meat. Try it when cooking and tell us what you think.

5. Cheesemaking.

Love cheese? Then this is just the perfect idea for you.

Sour milk is great for making cheese. If you don't really know how to make cheese, here is a recipe you can start with.

6. Gardening.

You can't drink sour milk, so why not share it with your plants?

Dilute some sour milk with water and pour it on your plants. Sour milk provides your plants with calcium which helps them grow strong. This trick is especially good for tomato plants.

The sour milk odour can also help keep deer away, if there are any around.

Try this and your plants will surely thank you.

7. Pet food.

Mix some of the sour milk you have with your pet's food to give your pet a little extra calcium and protein.

8. Art and crafts.

Try making some crafts with sour milk with your kids and they might just enjoy it.
